HCSC Has Served Healthcare Safely for More Than 50 Years

Most people never think about where hospital linens come from. Behind every patient gown, surgical towel, bed sheet, and warm blanket is a highly controlled process designed to support infection prevention and patient safety. For more than 50 years, HCSC Linen Services – a division of Hospital Central Services, Inc. & Affiliates (HCSC) – has quietly helped healthcare providers across the Mid-Atlantic region ensure clean, hygienically processed textiles are ready for patient care every day.

A Legacy Built to Support Healthcare

Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Allentown, PA, HCSC was established through a collaborative effort among business, community, and healthcare leaders who recognized the need for a centralized healthcare textile processing system that could improve efficiency, reduce costs, eliminate duplication of services, and better support hospitals throughout the region. The organization opened its first processing facility in Allentown in 1971.

Today, HCSC Linen Services operates five textile processing facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland and supports more than 2,700 healthcare organizations, including hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, surgical centers, long-term care facilities, outpatient locations, and more. Each year, the organization processes more than 140 million pounds of healthcare textiles essential to patient care.

More Than a Healthcare Laundry

While HCSC has often been referred to as a “hospital laundry,” its role is far more significant. Every item processed undergoes rigorous healthcare textile handling procedures, including soil separation, advanced wash chemistry, inspection, and comprehensive quality assurance measures designed to support stringent infection prevention standards.

“Our work may happen behind the scenes, but it directly supports the healthcare providers and patients who depend on safe, reliable linen services every day,” said Rami Nemeh, President & CEO of Hospital Central Services, Inc. “We are proud to serve as a trusted healthcare partner throughout the region.”

People, Experience, and a Commitment to the Future

HCSC’s story is also one of long-term commitment and leadership continuity. The organization’s last two Presidents retired after 33 and 13 years of service, respectively, before Nemeh assumed his leadership role in 2025.

That same continuity extends throughout HCSC Linen Services. When the division’s Chief Operating Officer retired in 2013 after 33 years of service, he was succeeded by another operations leader who recently retired after more than 40 years with the organization. Today, operational leadership continues under a Senior Vice President with more than 32 years of service and a Vice President of Operations approaching 20 years with the organization.

Across its five accredited textile processing facilities, more than 850 employees including production workers, maintenance technicians, engineers, drivers, supervisors, and administrative staff, work behind the scenes every day to support hospitals and healthcare providers throughout the region.

As HCSC Linen Services looks to the future, the organization continues investing in technology, innovation, operational efficiency, and customer partnerships while remaining grounded in the mission it has carried for more than five decades: supporting healthcare responsibly, safely, and reliably.
